Graduate Philosophy Conference

Saturday 6th June 2009

Avenue Campus,
University of Southampton,
Southampton, UK

Keynote speakers:

Quassim Cassam (University of Warwick), 'Knowing, Seeing and Stroud's Dilemma'
Duncan Pritchard (University of Edinburgh), 'Radical Scepticism, Epistemic
Luck and Epistemic Value'

The University of Southampton's annual one-day Graduate Conference in
Philosophy will this year focus on scepticism.  This includes scepticism as
it appears in epistemology, philosophy of mind, ethics, philosophy of
language and other areas.  Contributions concerning contemporary continental
or analytic philosophy are equally welcome, as are those addressing topics
from the history of philosophy.  Papers are invited from graduate students
and we are hoping to attract a wide external audience.

Deadline for submission of papers:  Monday 4th May 2009

Papers should be not more than 3,000 words in length, suitable for a 20
minute presentation followed by discussion.  Please submit papers to Dr.
Denis McManus at the address below, or preferably by e-mail to
D.Mcmanus@soton.ac.uk.  Papers should be accompanied by a covering letter or
e-mail, but should not contain any self-identifying references in the text
itself.

Registration is free.

For other inquiries, please contact either;

*Workshop on Semantic Content*

*4-6 November 2011*

*University of Barcelona*

Semantic theories provide a systematic description of the meanings of the
sentences of particular natural languages, or at least of simplified models
of such languages, for a number of explanatory purposes. The notion of the
content of, or proposition expressed by, a sentence is central to most
semantic theorising: the predictions a semantic theory yields concern which
semantic content (or which proposition) each sentence expresses in a
possible context of use.
